The Central Position
Ski Run Marina sits at the geographic center of South Lake Tahoe's CA-side lakefront, off US-50 just below Heavenly Mountain Resort (hence the name "Ski Run"). The marina is walking distance from Heavenly Village's shops and restaurants and a short drive from the Stateline casinos. For visitors staying in South Lake Tahoe proper, Ski Run is often the most convenient marina simply on geography.
From Ski Run by water: 10 minutes to Tahoe Keys area, 15-20 minutes to Pope Beach, 18-22 minutes to Baldwin Beach, 25-30 minutes to Emerald Bay, 22-25 minutes to Zephyr Cove. The marina is well-positioned for either-direction trip planning.
Rental Fleet Character
Ski Run's fleet emphasizes powerboats more heavily than other south shore marinas. The marina was originally established with water sports in mind (the "Ski" in the name was originally water-skiing, not snow). Today the fleet typically includes:
- Modern wakeboard and ski boats
- Surf-capable boats (V-drive with wake-shaping)
- Pontoons, including some larger party-style
- Jet skis (multiple capacity options)
- Kayaks and SUPs from beach concessions adjacent
Riva Grill — On-Site Lakefront Restaurant
Ski Run Marina hosts Riva Grill, a sit-down American restaurant with lakefront seating. More polished than Sunset Beach Bar at Zephyr Cove or Beacon at Camp Richardson. Operates year-round (not seasonal). Lunch and dinner, full bar. Common combination: morning rental → return → late lunch at Riva → walk to Heavenly Village.

Convenience Factor
Walk to/from Lodging
If you're staying in South Lake Tahoe town proper, Ski Run is walkable from many hotels/Airbnbs. Skip the parking entirely. Walk to the marina, rent, return, walk home.
Heavenly Village + Boat Day Combo
Common Ski Run guest pattern: morning shopping/coffee at Heavenly Village → walk to Ski Run → boat for 4-6 hours → return → evening at Heavenly or Stateline. Single car parking, multi-activity day.
Year-Round Operation
Ski Run operates year-round (vs. some marinas that close in winter months). Off-season boat rentals (April, late October, even some winter days) are possible from Ski Run, weather permitting.
Ski Run Marina vs. Other South Shore Marinas
- vs. Zephyr Cove: Ski Run is more central, has more powerboats; Zephyr Cove has larger party pontoons and better East Shore access.
- vs. Tahoe Keys: Ski Run is more central in town; Tahoe Keys is closer to Emerald Bay.
- vs. Camp Richardson: Ski Run is more powerboat-focused; Camp Richardson has more historic-Tahoe atmosphere.
The Casino-Area Marina
Ski Run Marina is the South Shore's most centrally-located marina for visitors staying at the California-side casinos. From most hotels in the Stateline/Heavenly Village area, it's a 10-15 minute walk or a 3-5 minute drive. This makes Ski Run the default for casino-staying visitors who want a half-day boat outing without dealing with car logistics.
Fleet Variety
Ski Run hosts multiple operators on the same dock — you'll find Tahoe Sports' fleet, plus several private boat slips. The result is one of the broader available fleets on the South Shore: pontoons of varying sizes, ski boats, wakeboard boats, jet skis, and kayaks all bookable from the same marina complex.
Riva Grill — The Boat-In Restaurant
Riva Grill sits right on the water at Ski Run Marina with its own dock for boat-up dining. This makes Ski Run unique: you can launch from here, cruise the lake, and return for lunch at Riva without leaving the marina. The dock fills on summer weekends; arrive at off-meal times or call ahead.
What to Know About Parking
The Ski Run lot is paid and fills by 10 AM on summer weekends. The structure has multiple levels but the close-to-dock spots go fast. If you arrive after 11 AM, expect to walk a bit. Alternative: use the parking at Heavenly Village (3-minute walk) and approach from there.
Routes from Ski Run
Ski Run is geometrically central to the South Shore. From here you can reach Pope Beach (15 min west), Emerald Bay (30 min west), Cave Rock (15 min east), Sand Harbor (43 min northeast), or Camp Richardson (15 min west). The flexibility makes Ski Run a default choice when you don't have a specific destination in mind.
Ski Run vs Tahoe Keys
Tahoe Keys is closer to Emerald Bay (22 min vs 30 min from Ski Run). Ski Run is closer to the casinos (walking distance vs 8-min drive from Tahoe Keys). If Emerald Bay is your primary goal, Tahoe Keys saves time. For most other day patterns, Ski Run's location and amenities make it the better default.
Rent from Ski Run
