Nevada Beach is a wide, sandy U.S. Forest Service beach on Lake Tahoe's south shore, on the Nevada side just north of Stateline. The beach runs along the lake for about half a mile, with the Nevada Beach campground (small, ~50 sites) behind it in the pine forest. Road access via Elks Point Road off US-50, but parking fills quickly on summer weekends.

For boat-rental customers, Nevada Beach is a convenient close-in destination — particularly from Zephyr Cove Marina (5 minutes south by boat) or from California-side marinas as a 15-20 minute cruise.

Close to Zephyr Cove

For Zephyr Cove renters on hourly or short half-day rentals, Nevada Beach is the no-effort first stop. 5 minutes out, anchor, swim, return. Great for groups testing the boat or wanting a quick lake experience.

Less Crowded Than Pope/Baldwin

Nevada Beach is meaningfully less crowded than the California-side popular beaches. Same general experience (sandy beach, swimming, anchoring offshore) with fewer boats and people.

Family-Friendly

The shallow sandy bottom extends well offshore — kids can wade out 100+ feet and still be in chest-deep water. Excellent for young swimmers.

Campground Adjacency

For boaters staying at Nevada Beach Campground, you can rent a boat from Zephyr Cove (next door) and have the boat moored offshore your campsite — a unique South Shore camping + boating combination.

The Boat Approach

From Zephyr Cove, head south along the shoreline. Nevada Beach is the next major beach south of the Zephyr Cove resort property, easily visible from offshore (the wide sandy strip is unmistakable). Anchor 200-400 feet offshore in 8-12 feet of water; sandy bottom holds well.

Combining With Other Destinations

Nevada Beach makes a great "second stop" or "first stop" on East Shore boat days:

• Quick first stop from Zephyr Cove. Cruise out, anchor at Nevada Beach for 30-60 min, continue north to East Shore boat-in beaches.
• Recovery stop on return. Coming back from Sand Harbor or Secret Cove, Nevada Beach is the last "kids can swim" stop before returning to Zephyr Cove.
• Beach + Stateline combo. Boat to Nevada Beach in afternoon, return to Zephyr Cove, drive 5 minutes to Stateline for dinner.

Can I camp at Nevada Beach?

Yes. Forest Service campground takes reservations. ~50 sites; books fast for summer.

Is it good for tubing or skiing?

The water just offshore is fine for tubing and skiing, but you need to be outside the 200-ft no-wake zone. Beach is closer to swimmers — keep water sports activities well offshore.

What about parking?

Limited parking lot fills early on summer weekends. Boat arrival sidesteps the parking issue entirely.

Is Nevada Beach better than Pope Beach?

Different. Pope Beach is larger and more developed with more activities. Nevada Beach is smaller, quieter, and easier to reach from Nevada-side marinas. Depends on what you're optimizing for.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes, leashed dogs allowed on the beach. Standard Lake Tahoe basin rules apply.

Why Nevada Beach Stands Out

Nevada Beach is the South Shore's largest USFS beach on the Nevada side. The setting is dramatic — Heavenly Mountain rises directly above the beach, providing one of the more photogenic shoreline-to-mountain backdrops on the lake. The wide, sandy beach is one of the bigger sand expanses available without driving to the West Shore.

The Campground

Nevada Beach has an on-site USFS campground (54 sites). If you're camping, you literally walk to the beach. Reservations through recreation.gov are essential — these sites book months in advance for summer. The campground also provides a daytime atmosphere unlike beaches without lodging nearby.

Dog-Friendly Section

Like Baldwin Beach on the California side, Nevada Beach has a designated dog-friendly area (specifically the north end of the beach, near the picnic area). Leashed dogs are welcome there.

The Water

The bottom slopes gradually — kids can wade well out without getting in over their heads. The water is cold (typical Tahoe) but the gradual slope means swim entry is more gradual than the granite-and-drop-off East Shore beaches.

By Boat

Nevada Beach is anchor-friendly with sandy bottom in 8-12 feet of water close to shore. Anchor 100-200 feet offshore and swim in. The beach is about 5 minutes east of Lakeside Beach by boat, 10 minutes from Round Hill Pines, 12 minutes from Stateline.

Parking

Paid USFS lot ($10/day). Adequate capacity for most weekends but fills by 10 AM on Saturdays in July-August. The lot has shade from pines, which matters for keeping coolers cool.

Nevada Beach vs Lakeside Beach

Both are Nevada-side South Shore beaches. Lakeside is closer to the casino strip (walk-to) and more developed (paved walkway, casino sightlines). Nevada Beach is more natural, with camping nearby, mountain views, and a more "real Tahoe" feel. Lakeside for casino convenience; Nevada Beach for the lake experience.
