About the South Shore marinas

South Lake Tahoe has six working rental marinas. They span the south shore from Tahoe Keys (SW corner, closest to Emerald Bay) east through the casino strip to Zephyr Cove on the Nevada side. Each has a different fleet mix and a different "best-for" depending on your day's plan.

• Tahoe Keys Marina — Largest marina on Lake Tahoe. 22 minutes by pontoon to Emerald Bay (shortest of all South Shore marinas). Largest fleet.
• Camp Richardson Marina — Historic 1920s resort. Boat-in restaurant (Beacon Bar & Grill). Family-friendly with sailboats available.
• Ski Run Marina — Casino-district default. Multiple operators on the dock. Walkable from many Stateline hotels.
• Timber Cove Marina — Action Watersports base. Jet skis, parasailing, and wakeboard boats concentrated here. (Currently no online booking partner — call the marina to book.)
• Lakeside Marina — Smaller, intimate operation. Walkable to several Stateline hotels. Wheelchair-accessible options. (Currently no online booking partner — call the marina to book.)
• Zephyr Cove Marina — Largest on the Nevada side. Home port of the M.S. Dixie II. Best for East Shore routes.

Which marina should you choose?

South Lake Tahoe has six marinas spread across roughly seven miles of shoreline. Three of them — Tahoe Keys, Ski Run, and Zephyr Cove — have online booking partners and are pinned on the interactive map below. The other three (Camp Richardson, Lakeside, and Timber Cove) are real marinas covered in this guide for reference, but they currently have no online inventory; call them directly if you want to launch from there. The right launch point depends on where you're staying, what kind of boating you want to do, and where on the lake you actually want to end up. Below are the scenarios renters ask about most often, with our recommendation for each.

If you're staying at a Stateline casino or Heavenly Village hotel

Best choice: Ski Run Marina. It's the closest marina to the Stateline casino resorts and the Heavenly Gondola base — a 5 to 10 minute walk depending on which hotel you're in. Lakeside Marina and Timber Cove are even closer on foot but don't currently have online booking partners. If you're carrying coolers and gear, an Uber from any Stateline hotel to Ski Run is under five minutes and costs less than parking. Tahoe Keys is a 10 minute drive west — worth it if you want more selection, but Ski Run wins on convenience.

If your priority is Emerald Bay

Best bookable choice: Tahoe Keys Marina. About 22 minutes to Emerald Bay by water, with 28 bookable boats — the most convenient launch with online inventory. Camp Richardson is slightly closer geographically (~3 miles by water) but has no online booking partners — call (800) 544-1801 if you want to launch from there. From Tahoe Keys, you're on the lake — roughly three miles by water. You can reach Fannette Island and the Vikingsholm anchorage in about 20 to 25 minutes at cruising speed, leaving plenty of time to swim, eat lunch, and head back. Tahoe Keys is the second-best option (about five miles to Emerald Bay through the channel). From Zephyr Cove or Ski Run, expect another 15 to 20 minutes of run time each way. Tahoe Keys is ~22 minutes from Emerald Bay by water and has 28 bookable boats — the most convenient launch with online inventory. Camp Richardson is ~3 miles by water (slightly closer) but has no online booking partners; call Camp Richardson Resort directly at (800) 544-1801 if you want to launch from there.

If you want the biggest selection of boats

Best choice: Tahoe Keys Marina. With 28 boats currently available, Tahoe Keys has roughly twice the inventory of any other marina on the lake. You'll find pontoons for groups of 8 to 12, wakeboats with full surf systems, jet skis, kayaks, and SUPs all from one location. Multiple operators run their fleets here — Tahoe Sports, Battle Born, Boat Tahoe, and Tahoe Wakebusters — which means you can compare boats and price points without driving to a different marina. Ski Run is a strong second with 18 boats.

If you're staying in town (the Y, Highway 89 corridor, or vacation rental)

Best choice: Ski Run for walkability, Tahoe Keys for selection. Most hotels and vacation rentals in South Lake Tahoe are within ten minutes of one of these two marinas. Ski Run is faster if you don't want to deal with parking. Tahoe Keys is worth the extra few minutes if you want more boats to choose from. If you're staying at Camp Richardson Resort, Fallen Leaf Lake, or anywhere in the Highway 89 corridor toward Emerald Bay, Camp Richardson Marina is the closest launch — you can walk down from the cabins.

If you want a captained or scenic cruise

Best choice: Zephyr Cove Marina. Home port of the M.S. Dixie II paddlewheeler, which runs sunset dinner cruises and Emerald Bay tours daily through the summer season. Camp Richardson and Tahoe Keys also have captained charter options, but Zephyr Cove's marina is set up around the cruise experience: dedicated parking, beach access, an on-site restaurant, and a check-in process built for larger groups. The drive from Stateline takes about 15 minutes.

If you want jet skis or personal watercraft

Best choice: Ski Run Marina. Jet Ski Rental Lake Tahoe operates out of Ski Run and has the largest PWC fleet on the south shore. Tahoe Keys has jet skis as well through Tahoe Sports, but Ski Run is more PWC-focused — the launch zone is outside the no-wake area so you can open the throttle immediately instead of idling out for five minutes first.

If you want wakesurf or wakeboard

Best choice: Tahoe Keys Marina. Tahoe Wakebusters and Battle Born both run high-end Malibu and MasterCraft surf boats out of Tahoe Keys. Action Watersports also has wakeboats based at Ski Run. If you're a serious surfer who cares about wave quality, the Tahoe Keys operators tend to have the newest hulls and the most surf-specific setups, including programmable wave shape and tower speakers.

If you have a large group (10 or more)

Best choice: Tahoe Keys Marina. Several of the double-decker pontoons here accommodate up to 12 passengers — the practical legal capacity on most south-shore pontoons. For groups beyond 12, captained charters at Zephyr Cove or private yacht options out of Tahoe Keys can scale up further. Always confirm head count with the operator before booking, and remember that weight limits matter more than passenger limits — a boat rated for 12 may be uncomfortable with twelve adult passengers plus gear.

If you only want kayaks, paddleboards, or non-motorized rentals

Best choice: Camp Richardson, Lakeside Beach, or Pope Beach. Tahoe Sports operates kayak and SUP rentals from multiple beach access points along the south shore, not just marinas. You don't need a formal marina launch for non-powered craft — the put-in is right off the sand. Filter by the kayak/SUP category on the map to see which beaches have hourly rentals available.

Getting to the marinas: parking and access

Each marina has its own parking and access situation, and on busy summer weekends arriving early matters more than your choice of operator. Here's what to expect.

• Tahoe Keys Marina — Day parking lot adjacent to the marina; usually has spaces but can fill up by 10am on July and August weekends. Address: 2435 Venice Drive, South Lake Tahoe. Channel exit to the main lake takes about five minutes at idle speed.
• Ski Run Marina — Smaller paid lot that fills early on weekends with both rental customers and casino-area overflow. Plan for $15 to $25 parking, or use rideshare from your hotel. Address: 900 Ski Run Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe.
• Camp Richardson Marina — Free parking included with the resort, but the lot fills early on weekends because it serves the beach, restaurants, and lodging in addition to the marina. The complex includes Beacon Bar & Grill, an ice cream window, and a general store. Address: 1900 Jameson Beach Road, South Lake Tahoe.
• Zephyr Cove Marina — Large paid lot at roughly $15 to $20 per car; spaces are usually available because the lot is sized for the M.S. Dixie II cruise terminal capacity. Address: 760 US-50, Zephyr Cove, NV.
• Timber Cove Marina — Free street parking and a small lot. No rental partner currently, but the public pier is one of the longest on the lake and the on-site dining is a local favorite.
• Lakeside Marina — Walking distance from Stateline hotels with very limited parking, so most visitors arrive on foot or by rideshare. Beach access and a small fleet of paddle craft are available seasonally.

What each filter does

The four filters above the map narrow the boat count shown on each marina pin without hiding the marina itself. That's intentional — you can see at a glance which marinas have what you want instead of getting an empty map because of one strict filter. Counts update in real time as you change filters.

• Price — Bins boats by approximate price tier. "Premium" covers rentals over $1,500, which usually means captained charters, full-day yacht trips, or large double-decker pontoons.
• Length — Hourly options versus half-day versus full-day. Some boats only rent for full days at peak season because operators won't turn them around twice in a day.
• Captain — Whether you want to drive yourself (most pontoons, wakeboats, and PWCs) or have a captain included (yachts, sunset dinner cruises, larger parties where nobody wants to be designated driver).
• Group size — Filters by passenger capacity. Most pontoons hold 8 to 12; wakeboats typically 8 to 10; jet skis 1 to 3; kayaks and SUPs 1 to 2.
