Where Lakeside Beach Sits

Lakeside Beach is located on the Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe, immediately east of the Stateline casino district. It sits between Edgewood Tahoe (private) and Nevada Beach (USFS) — making it the most casino-adjacent public beach on the lake. From the heart of the South Shore casino strip, you can walk to Lakeside Beach in 10-15 minutes; from most lakefront hotels (Hard Rock, Bally's, Harveys, Harrah's) it's under 5 minutes by foot.

By Boat

The beach faces directly south into open Lake Tahoe. From Zephyr Cove Marina, it's about 5-7 minutes by boat. From Ski Run Marina across the cove on the California side, it's a similar 5-7 minute crossing. From Tahoe Keys Marina, about 12-15 minutes east through open water.

The anchorage is sandy and slopes gradually, making it ideal for swim-anchor stops with rental pontoons or ski boats. Drop anchor in 8-15 feet of water; the bottom holds well in moderate conditions.

The Sand

Lakeside Beach is sandy — not pebbled — which is unusual for the East Shore and a major draw. The sand extends from the shoreline back to the parking area, giving good lounging space.

Facilities

Lakeside has restrooms, picnic tables, and a small concessions area in season. There's also playground equipment for younger kids.

Parking

Paid parking lot operated by the Tahoe Douglas Visitors Authority. Fees in season ($10-$15 depending on weekend vs weekday). The lot fills by late morning on summer weekends.

Casino Proximity

Walking distance to Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Bally's, Harveys, Harrah's, and the MontBleu/Edgewood Tahoe complex. Many casino guests treat Lakeside as their default beach.

Lakeside Beach vs. Nearby Beaches

vs. Nevada Beach (3 minutes east by boat)

Nevada Beach is more secluded, with USFS-managed campsites and dog-allowed sections. Lakeside is more developed and closer to the casino strip.

vs. Pope Beach (15 minutes west by boat)

Pope Beach is on the California side, larger, and family-oriented. Lakeside is smaller, in a busier neighborhood.

vs. Round Hill Pines (10 minutes east by boat)

Round Hill Pines Beach Resort is a paid beach club with food service and watersports. Lakeside is public with simpler facilities.

When to Visit

Lakeside Beach is best visited mid-morning (before parking fills) or late afternoon (after the day-trippers leave). Friday-Sunday in July-August are peak; Tuesday-Thursday have markedly fewer crowds.

Off-season (September-May), Lakeside is nearly empty and quiet. Fall light on Lakeside is beautiful — the casino skyline in the background turns the standard beach shot into something distinctive.

Combining Lakeside with Boat Rentals

Many South Shore boat day-trips include Lakeside Beach as a swim/anchor stop on the way to or from East Shore destinations. The protected south-facing geometry means the water near shore is calmer than open lake — good for swimmers in the group while the boat anchors offshore.

Why It Crowds Fast

Lakeside Beach is the closest public beach to the casino-area lodging, which means hotel guests can walk down and back. On peak summer weekends, the beach fills by mid-morning. Many casino visitors don't realize how much closer Nevada Beach is by car (it's 3 minutes east), so Lakeside crowds while Nevada Beach has space.

Photographically, Lakeside is unique among South Shore beaches because the casino towers form the inland backdrop. Some photographers love this for the urban-meets-alpine contrast; others prefer the "pure Tahoe" feel of beaches without the casino sightlines. Personal preference.

By Boat from the Lake Side

If you're approaching by boat, anchor 100-200 yards offshore in the central sandy area. The bottom slopes gradually — anchoring depth of 8-15 feet is typical. The protected geometry makes it calmer than open lake during typical afternoon winds.

Edgewood Tahoe Adjacent

Lakeside Beach is immediately west of the Edgewood Tahoe golf course and resort. The Edgewood Bistro (5-minute walk from Lakeside) has full lakefront dining. If you want a beach day plus a meaningful lakeside meal, this combination works.

What to Bring

Bring everything — Lakeside has basic facilities (restrooms, a small concession), but for a full beach day, plan to be self-sufficient. Cooler, water, sunscreen, towels, shade. The beach is sand, not grass, so chairs or blankets work better than sitting directly on hot sand.

Best Times

Pre-9 AM Lakeside is almost empty — you'll have the place mostly to yourself. By 11 AM weekend crowds arrive. Late afternoon (after 4 PM) thins out as day-trippers leave. Sunset at Lakeside is dramatic with the casino lights coming on as the sun goes down behind the Sierra.
