Anchoring Technique

Approach into the Wind

Drop anchor while heading into the wind. As you drop, the boat will drift back, setting the anchor.

Scope

Use scope of at least 3:1 (anchor rode length to water depth). In 10 feet of water, deploy at least 30 feet of rope.

Backing Down

After dropping, reverse the boat gently to set the anchor. You should feel resistance.

Watch for Drift

Periodically check that you haven't dragged. Pick two reference points on shore and verify your position.
